Noorani Qaida Explained: The First Step Before Reading the Qur'an

Every fluent Qur’an reader started in the same place: learning the shape, sound, and connection of Arabic letters. That foundation is called Noorani Qaida, and it’s the course we recommend first for any student — child or adult — who hasn’t read Arabic before.

What Noorani Qaida actually covers

Noorani Qaida is a short, structured booklet used for generations to teach absolute beginners how to read Arabic script correctly. It moves in small steps: single letters and their sounds, how letters change shape depending on their position in a word, joining letters together, short and long vowels, and finally basic Tajweed rules like noon sakinah and tanween. By the end, a student isn’t just recognising letters — they’re sounding out real words with correct pronunciation.

Why skipping it causes problems later

We sometimes meet families who tried to jump straight into Qur’an reading without this stage. The result is usually the same: mispronounced letters that become habits, low confidence, and frustration for both student and parent. Fixing an ingrained habit takes longer than learning it correctly the first time. Noorani Qaida exists precisely to prevent that — it’s a short investment of weeks that saves months later.

Who this course is for

We teach Noorani Qaida to two main groups: children starting their Qur’an journey around age five and up, and adults — often parents themselves — who never learned to read Arabic as children and want to start now. There’s no age limit and no embarrassment in starting from zero; a large share of our adult students are in exactly this position.

How it works at Quran Circle Academy

Classes are one-to-one and live online with an Al-Azhar trained teacher, so the pace is set entirely by the student rather than a group. A young child might spend two lessons on a single letter group; an adult with some prior exposure might move faster. Every new student also gets two free trial lessons with two different teachers before committing to a plan, so you can find the teaching style that fits your family before paying anything.
